Blog Heading Ginny-Pig

Message
Last Saturday, 30th August 2008, saw the end of an era..... Ginny-Pig, my favourite of all the pigs, lost her fight for life after treatment for mites went disastrously wrong.
Ginny was one of nine and was fit & healthy apart from the pesky mites that came in a bale of hay.... They were all itching so all went to the vet for treatment.. I have 3 left out of the original 9.
Ginny was a little lady who needed a home back in 2003. At that time I had a single female, Hazel, who had recently lost her mate and her & ginny got along from the start. Soon afterwards, I found a little waif wandering along a main road.... He was a tiny baby guinea pig & Hazel & Ginny fostered him. Unbeknown to me, he became ´more than affectionate´ towards Ginny and she produced a litter 9 weeks later.....(it hadnt occured to me as he was only a ´baby´!!) Ginny was a brilliant mum to 6 babies but one was stillborn & another had a cleft palate & she rejected him after a few days. The remaining 4 thrived & I kept the girls while my friend had the boys.
Over the years a steady stream of waifs & strays arrived and Ginny was the one I could trust to ´take them under her paw´ and look after them.
She was the first to greet me in the morning. The one who always wanted to come out for a cuddle on my lap where she would sit, eyes half closed, ´rumbling´ quietly to herself...
She didnt have a bad bone in her body & never fought with any of the others...
The first time out on the lawn in Springtime was her favourite time of all & she would popcorn round the run like a spring lamb - jumping for joy..
Ginny was taken too soon. It wasnt her time and she fought so hard to stay but it wasnt to be.
I miss her. I will always miss her. She was a ´one off´, a kind & gentle piggy. My Ginny. Goodnight little one - I expect you´re still loking after the others, in piggy heaven...

I am so sorry to hear your news. I have one piggie, Ginger who I was told in April only had a few days left due to a Kidney tumour, well she has had a few strange spells but is currently still going strong. I know I will miss her terribly when the time comes, she is such a character and one of my first piggies. I hope your remaining piggies will help you to smile and get through this difficult time.
