My blog

RSPCA

My Blog entry to spend a day with the RSPCA

Well i´m sorry to say that i have no personal experience that is a positive with the RSPCA.
The main case that has stuck out in my mind is our next door neighbours cat and birds, a beautiful blue persian cat, mid aged, seemed healthy. A small avairy outside (shed type)

Well the owner was in debt and left with no trace nothing at all, didn´t even tell us (neighbours), 2 weeks on i noticed that the cat was sat in the window licking the glass, i went over to see if i could see anything as i had not seen the neighbour for a couple weeks, i tried doors windows etc but nope it was all locked. I climbed over the fence to check if the birds where still there and they were, sadly most were dead and decomposing....... i dont know how long they had gone un fed watered etc but it was stinking and awful!!

I called the RSPCA who said that they would call around and check, so i waited and waited bearing in mind i couldn´t get any water or food to the cat, 2 days later i called again, to be told someone will deal with it asap but there are more urgent cases being dealt with and the cat was not priority at the time!!

2 weeks later they turn up, i go out to talk and all the inspector did was call the cat to the window and said not much i can do, he put a card in the door and a piece of paper wedged in the door to see if anyone had opened it for when he returned another 1 week later!!

I was fuming, this took a good 6 weeks before they broke into the house and got the animals out, the cat had been drinking dirty dish water and eating anything it could find in bins, etc the place stunk then in the garden ALL the birds had died and the smell was revoulting!!

The RSPCA took the cat and i called a week later to see if i could get a progress report on the cat and i was informed there was no log details on the cat and to try the local rescues!!! Fuming i was!!! I called local centres to no avail.

I never knew what happened to the cat but i do know that the guy was prosicuted and fined but i cant remember details as it was quite a few years ago.

I would like the oppertunity to work wit hthe RSPCA for a day as it was my ambition in life to be a RSPCA inspector however after my dealings i was quickly put off and went through the veterinary nursing route. I would just like to see what REALLY happens and goes on behind the RSPCA and i would love to be pleasuntly suprised!

what a sad story becky, those poor animals. i´m like you, when i was younger i wanted nothing more than to work for the RSPCA and help animals but now i have now faith in them. i can´t believe it took 6 weeks for the poor animals to be removed from a locked house with no food or water and the birds to all have died :-(

i am really looking forward to the results of this competition and am eager to see who wins the prize of a day with an inspector. will be very interesting i´m sure.
