its such a long time ago, but if she is attempting to walk i think i´d be inclined to see exactly what if anything she can do if only for a few moments. has your vet said anything about time scales on improvement? when does she next go to see him/her? you know maybe if it is just nerve damage(as oppose to something more sinister) a little bit of exercise might do her the world of good.If you´re not sure ask your vet what they think..... and dont forget to keep your chin up and fingers crossed. Thinking of you hun, feel like i know you(if you know what i mean) x

I´m so glad that I have got speaking to you, you are really putting my mind at ease about so many things, like Tammy sleeping alot, Fudge pretty much sleeps all day and night and I was starting to worry about that. And you are right she will have a bit then she´ll turn her head but she does then eat all her dinner after about an hour that she´s had her medication. I do carry her everywhere at the minute and I do want to see if her walking has improved but I don´t want do any damage to her, It´s only been a week so i´m going to give her a bit longer before I see if there is any improvement. Fudge does try and move all the time, if I put her down for the toilet she just try´s to walk off, but i stop her and pick her up. i´m not gonna give up with her. how long was it before you noticed an improvement with Tammy??? xx

hi Katie, as far as i can remember we used to just hold tammy up as best we could and she managed, she did mess herself in the early days but wasn´t a hardship we´d just gently bath her.Like Fudge she was picky with feeding but not unlike us i suppose when not feeling good and in pain, i think although i´m goin back few yrs now that we tried to feed her after her meds ´had kicked in´ and she seemed to eat better.I really hope you see some improvement in little Fudge cos i know how you must be feeling. As for bed rest Tammy did sleep a lot and i carried her whenever she tried to move but then made the decision to stop carrying her and see how she managed and although it was pitiful to watch her struggle(but i didnt let it go too far just few minutes) she did eventually start to gain movement back and although she walked very gingerly for a while like i said she is now 15. My fingers are x´ed for you both dont give up hope just yet hun x

OMG that sounds exactly like what the vet is telling me about Fudge. her back legs do not move and the vet has also spoke about paralysis and neuro damage, she is on metacam and is confined to strict bed rest. she hates it and so do I but I know if she has any chance of recovery this is what I need to do. Did you have to make sure Tammy had bed rest, and how did you manage with the toilet issue. My vet has told me to position her and put finger pressure on her bladder and she will urinate, but i´m not finding it that easy. also I have noticed that she is on and off her food, what was Tammy like with eating and doing her business in the garden?????
Thank you so much for getting back to me about this, it has given me some hope. I will be sure to keep you informed.xx

hi katie, Tammy was about 9 and she couldn´t walk at all her back legs just didnt move and initially the vet spoke of paralysis and neuro damage but we saw a different vet who gave her metacam and us lots of reassurance and played a waiting game if you like but eventually albeit slowly whatever she´d done she got over and she´s now 15.I´m not saying this will be the case for Fudge but i really hope so plz keep me informed.Good luck x

Thankyou all for your advise. I ahve already tried the PDSA and they do not do spinal surgery. I will try to speak to the vets again and just prey that they will agree to some sort of payment plan. i will try the RSPCA, and I will keep you all informed. If only I could win the lottery even if it was just enough to pay the £3000 to sort Fudge out.....If only!!!!!!!

Do please ring your veterinary practice and explain your situation.....most will be more than happy to sort out your pet for you (as the number one priority being her welfare) and then they will come to some form of settlement for you to pay the bill over time.

Denying your pet health care is unfair to her and obviously wrong.....please speak to your vet and I´m sure they will come through with an alternative to help all parties....good luck with her.
