My blog Dizzy Update part 2Went to the specialist today and to be honest Im still so confused and haven´t got a clue what is going on ????? Vet said he don´t want to build my hopes up, but he thinks Dizzys tumour is a low grade tumour, because of the way he is acting, i.e.still eating well, drinking, wanting to go out, playing. The vet loved him and was surprised at the size of him and said he was great, Dizzy was all over him. There is a BUT............. The vet can not tell if the tumour is low grade without a CT scan, and thats where the problem is, the money for the scan. Even if its low grade there is no guarantee that Dizzy will need further treatment like chemo/radio therapy, vet said he don´t think he will need this but is not 100% sure. If he cuts the lump out Dizzy will have to have like baby food , soft food for the rest of his life which isn´t a problem, but he won´t be able to play with balls, tug ropes, sticks, chews, bones act, because here will be a hole. So basically what he is saying without the CT scan he still don´t no how bad Dizzy is. And to be honest I don´t no what to do ?????????? Comments 02 Dec 2011 11:35 Thats a lot of money, plus if he has to have chemo and medication it will be much more. 01 Dec 2011 20:02 The scan is going to be about £1, 500 this includes the vet having a look at a small red pinkish mark on Dizzys belly, which he thinks could be a problem, but he can´t tell without looking at it properly. I have been researching all day, the scan has to be done which is about £1.300 without this nobody is going to know what type of tumour it is. So Im still doing research and will be sitting tomorrow night with my fingers crossed hoping I win the lottery. 01 Dec 2011 17:30 Please don´t feel bad Sue, vets are very good at this, they play on our emotions,. basically hes left you with a terrible quandary. do as much research as you can and if you think it will help don´t be afraid to ring up and ask questions. 01 Dec 2011 13:18 Don´t feel bad about stating the truth if that´s the situation Sue. Have the vets told you how much a scan will cost? I´ve no idea, but obviously it´s not going to be cheap. 01 Dec 2011 11:46 I´m all over the place Jacqui without the CT we are not going to no what the rumour is or how bad it is. I no this may sound wrong but I feel the vets have me over a barrel because without the scan they are not going to do anything for Dizz. I feel awful for saying this, but this is what it boils down too. 01 Dec 2011 07:32 What a day you must´ve had yesterday Sue. Your head must be in a whirl with it all. Can only agree with what Vena has already said, but let´s hold on to the fact the vet thinks it´s a low grade tumour, but it´s a terrible predicament to be in xxxx 30 Nov 2011 21:42 Will just have to have a good think, because I really haven´t got a clue at the minute. 30 Nov 2011 20:07 Things are never straightforward are they,! all l can suggest is that you´ll have to weigh up the pros and cons, if hes not insured it could cost thousands but even if you found the money would his quality of life be good, assuming , the vet was right and it was a low grade, not an easy decision but im sure whatever you decide it will be the right one for Dizzy xxxxxx 30 Nov 2011 19:27 He needs the scan because he needs to know where the tumour started. They can´t tell from the X ray my vet done because they just done a head scan. The CT scan does the whole body then he can tell where this tumour has come from. He can´t treat it without knowing this, because he said it may have come from his tummy, kidneys ect. Dizzy has always been so active he loves his tennis balls and chews , I really don´t no what to do. I feel like noting has changed from when I left home this morning to go see the vet. 30 Nov 2011 18:54 lts great that there is hope, but what a predicament its left you in ,if he thinks its a low grade tumour is there any treatment he can give without the scan or chemo, to see how it responds,. as you say the soft food isn´t a problem but hes still a fairly young dog, do you feel hed be happy not being able to play ect: |
