Rat toysWe are bringing two rats into our family on Sunday. We have been busy buying and making toys for them. What ideas does anyone have for toys your rats (or other small pets) have enjoyed? Thanks, Julie From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 14 Nov 2007 12:19 Absolutely agree with 'Sarah',she has mentioned just about everything that I too could think of. As long as they have room to move around and play and plenty of stimulation, they should make for two very happy rats, enjoy them!. 14 Nov 2007 12:06 ive just taken in 3 rats too. so far i have brought them some hammocks and a nice wooden house, some balls, rope ladders, ladders, tubes etc - basically things to climb and things to throw about the cage. i have also given them boxes so that they can hide in them, chew them, sit on them. half fill them with bedding and they dig in them too. um...nuts are good - in shells - they spend ages trying to get in to them and then get a nice treat when they do (ie they get to eat the nut!) i didn't get a wheel as they are in a temporary cage at the moment and it is not quite big enough but i may get one once their proper cage arrives. i have also given them old clothes (either mine or 20p items from charity shops) so that they can nest in them, chew them, fling them about and dig in them, i have also turned a pair of childs trousers into a ladder in the cage so they can get from one platform to another, they climb up the trouser legs! they like games like "fishing for peas" place a small tub in the cage or in their free run area, put in a little water and some frozen peas (or cranberries or the like) and watch them fish them out. other games people play are things like making a fake bin for them to play in as if it was in the wild, ie get a smallish bin, fill it with clean rubbish such as boxes, cartons ets (basically you could use your recycling), bits of tissue and stuff, and then add rats - they like to rummage through it all and you could put treats in bits of paper for them to find and stuff - same goes for "washing bin" basically, get your dirty washing or, if you prefer, get a load of clothes from the charity shop and put them in a was bin, and add rats! lots of fun rummaging through everything - maybe best to only use old clothes if you use your own in case they get chewed!! 14 Nov 2007 11:21 Hi, I was wondering as you say you are making toys whether you are thinking of selling any of them as I run a rat rescue and always need toys and hammocks and sleepy things for my boys and girls. Sorry if I have bothered you by sending this. Niki |
