lets us know what happens :( its very important that you keep him rested at the moment - your vet will refer you to an orthopedic vet if he needs to have surgery - feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the condition/treatment

poor Tino - hope hes feeling better soon, my Chihuahua has just had surgery for this condition (ive written a little about it on her page) talk to your vet about starting him on some glucosamine and chrondroitin joint suppliments you should see a good improvement in movement when he is allowed to exercise.

I cant really add more to what Becky has said but i wish the KC would make it compulsory for breeders to test for Patella Luxation.

Hi there, yorkies are one of the many small breeds prone to having what is known as luxating patella, or slipping knee caps. The fall off the chair could have just ben the catalyst to exposing his weakness. That is why it is vital that only those dogs that have been tested for luxating patella and found to be OK should be bred from.
With regards to his recovery make sure he can't jump about for at least 2 weeks then build up his exercise gradually. It may helpif you can find a hydrotherapy unit and get him to do some swimming about 3 times a week to build up his muscles in his legs although he may be small enough to be able to take a dip in your bath!
