When i do this the horse tht is not being feed normally rumages through my pockets to get some treats. 1 of my horses is a bit loony but even she doenst do tht. 29 Feb 2008 19:15 Could also be a submission thing, horses chew when in a submissive relaxed state. They will submit to the alpha horse to ensure their share of the hay or food, probably they are giving the same signals to you as they see you as the alpha one with the food, if they chew it indicates they are giving to your dominant status so you share with them. 28 Feb 2008 14:22 They have smelled the treat via their muzzle and are anticipating the forthcoming result..it's perfectly normal and is why, horses can often be seen curling their top lip up as is pulling a face,as they take in a scent and absorb it.....it look's real funny but does have a horsey language meaning to it. I have even had horses chomp their lips at thin air as if eating off of a hand, when feeding another horse...it's all part of their expectation and sensing food.......so don't worry.just smile and feed them treats. How's George by the way ????? - you can post your answer on his post below,if you'd rather. |
