What could have happened? Are my other cats going to be alright? None of the cats have been out for a few days because the weather has been so bad so i´m at a loss as to what has happened this is the 1st time i have every had a cat die on me.

I have asked cat ed and she has replied thanks.
Thanks to everyone for their kind throughts and words.
Its going to take a while for us all to move on from this but having his brother Honey makes it a little bit easier althrough he can never be replaced.

I am really sorry Brenda - it must be a terrible shock for you. Did you ask Cat the vet about it - maybe she can cast some light as to what happened. I know Cat is away but back at the weekend.

Awww, just let them know how much you love them, and that you are there for them. They are grieving (as I´m sure you are too, but in a different way), and you will all need time to re-adjust, and learn to live without. It´s harder for them I think, because they can still smell Jaffa around the place, and it will take time for that presence to fade.

Try not to feel guilty, or have "If only" feelings. I know it´s hard. But unfortunately Nature can be very cruel to us, and plays havoc sometimes with our emotions. You gave him a lovely warm home, and plenty of regular meals, and lots of love, and in return he gave you the one thing which he could give you...........
Happiness. He loved you too y´know.
>hugs from all here,, to all there<

Hi Gill no i don´t have any house plants or cut flowers i´m not very good with plants and its been a long time since anyone brought me flowers, (hubby did buy me a box of chocolates last night just to try and cheer me up). Honey cried all last night and is still searching for Jaffa i haven´t gone out at all today i´ve just spent the day with honey and the other cats Ben my older cat is also staying very close to Honey. Its just so hard.

So sorry to read this. But I´m afraid I disagree with your vet saying "it´s because he was the runt etc".
Yes, the runts are weaker than the rest of the litter, but they have a funny way of "getting their own back" !

Can I ask? Have you pot plants or cut flowers in the rooms where they were?
I´m asking from experience here, because I lost my darling Mitzi, a 10 week old (also the "runt") Turkish Van med long haired (who used to fall asleep on my shoulder) to a cut flower - a Lilly. I still miss her purring into my ear when I´m sitting at the desk ;)
Then I found this great web page (which might be useful to some)
http://www.moggies.co.uk/plants.html

Honey will be fine -- he´s grieving. Much like we do. Give him time, and remind him constantly that you love him, and he´ll be just fine.

Thanks Mary & Vena My other cats are all fine all the vet could say was that because jaffa´s parents were feral cats and because he was the runt and( when i first rescued him he wasn´t expected to make it) they say the runts of any litter are weaker it could have just been a sudden heart attack i can´t afford a post mortem as the vet said that would be nearly £200 and i might still not get an answer. I feel most sorry for poor honey (jaffa´s brother) he can´t work out where jaffa has gone and he just keeps crying. None of my cats have been out in the past few days due to the awful weather so i know he couldn´t have eaten anything bad.
To the person below i never leave any of my animals without food or water when i go out and he was only left from the morning till early afternoon.

Oh Brenda,
I am so sorry to read this...how absolutely devastating for you...I´m so sorry!.
To be honest,it´s impossible to say what could have caused his sudden demise..has he been poisoned accidentally by anything in the home or from outside possibly ????.

I would be tempted to have him post mortemed,if you can go through with that and if you can afford the expense (not too sure how much a vet would charge for an autopsy to be honest)...at least it would be put your mind at rest as to why this happened or you will be left forever wondering, what it was and why ????.
This action would also put your mind at rest surrounding the other cats within the household too or you could pop them along to your vet for a check up anyway, just to reassure yourself.

Whatever you decide to do..once again I am so very sorry about Jaffa and do please let us know,if you do find out what tragically claimed his life.

Take care now Brenda, and all the very best.....
Love & Hugs
Mary
