I have two dogs, and I never walked them very far whilst they were pups. From the age of a year you can start walking them for longer. At such a young age though you have to be carefull because bones are still developing.

Puppies and Exercise.
Puppies must not be over exercised, there bones are soft and easily damaged, over exercising can lead to a leggy adult, poor bone and at worst can lead to a crippled dog, with poor hips shoulders and elbows.
If you plan to do Agility, fly-ball or working trials ect: you should not begin training for the physical side until your puppy is at least 16 mths. old.
Until your pup is 8 mths old he will need NO exercise, other than lots of fun, and play in the garden.
Spend this time socialising and meeting other dogs ect: drive to open spaces where he will meet other dogs and people, drive to town and sit on a bench where he will meet people and children hear music ,all sorts of things going on .but no long walks at this time.Once he reaches 8 mths, gradually build up the exercise.

Hi Ruth,

Mary is right, there could be many different reasons why Roxy is lame. Hip Dysplasia is a problem within the breed, but it does not occur in every dog. Take her to the vets tomorrow and have her checked over. They should be able to shed some light on her lameness and, hopefully, put your mind at rest.

Dogs can become lame for all manner of reasons....she could have pulled a muscle or ligament for example,or split a pad or picked up something in her paw........check gher paws over for any foreign objects or split pads and fel for any heat in the legs.
IF she is still lame tomorrow...than take her to your vet for a full examination, meanwhile if you can find nothing wrong her to your eye...then allow her to rest on a comfortable bed until you can get her to your vet tomorrow.

Sorry,I cannot be any more specific, but as I say....lameness can stem from so many area´s and for so many reasons, but often is nothing more serious than a minor injury.
