Hi everyone I am a newbie, I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. I came upon this site (which is a brill site by the way - well done all!) whilst searching for help on the web. I don´t mean to bring sorrow and woe on my first visit but I am beside myself with worry. My cat - Delboy (top in picture) was knocked down by a speeding moped rider on thursday night right outside the house - I saw it happen and to be honest that´s bad enough without the other worries. Delboy hates the roads, he cowers until absolutely no vehicle rumbles can be heard and this ped came from nowhere at great speed, hit Delbs and didnt bother to stop. We rushed him to the local emergency vet, who said he appeared to have a broken jaw, did all the necessary painkilling etc and we left him in their hands. Next day (yesterday) they said his jaw was broken, poor little mite cant close his mouth but other than that he is fine. However the procedure required to fix him is quite tricky and the vet tried all over the place to find a surgeon to carry it out. We have ended up taking him to Cambridge, to the Veterinary College who are quite happy to carry out the operation to realign his jaw. We have no choice, putting him to sleep is NOT an option as he is healthy in all other ways. However, having let the cat insurance slip when we were hard up and not renewing it (kicking myself til it hurts) we have to find between £1500 and £2000 plus vat when we pick him up. I am not asking anyone here for money, please dont get me wrong - I am looking for advice, can anyone help, have you been in the same position, what did you do? We are happy to pay the bill, just cant all at once - are there any organisations out there that can help? We are both working but dont earn a vast amount - but we will pay every penny of it. We have just set up a business, we have no savings due to this. I am scared, I just want Delboy fixed and back here. If anyone can point me in a viable direction, please please get in touch. Thank you so much and again I am so sorry to bring woe on such a sunny saturday morning xxxxx Comments Post a comment in this discussion 06 Sep 2008 06:21 Hi everyone, thanks for all your comments and advice - I have borrowed some money and paid off some of the current bill, and the rest is being paid off hopefully over the next month. I had a brainwave and created an ebay page where people can pay 1.25 (suggested amount only) and receive updates on delboys recovery. I am now in touch with some wellwishers which is lovely. We did have a setback as when we bought Delboy home, (suppposedly tired and weak) he bolted like a bullet from a gun and went missing for two days without food (has a feeding tube fitted to neck as his jaw is wired) and painkillers. We were distraught and though we would not see him again but he turned up safe and sound, he is doing really well and the ebay page is up and runnin again ( I ended it as I thought it would be misconstrued as fraud, advertising the updates of a recovering puss that was actually missing!!!!!). So Delboy is doing fine, I am chilled about the bill, and I have found this site which is fab!! Thanks again everyone xxxx 02 Sep 2008 12:46 Hi Julie and welcome to the site - i am so sorry to hear about your problem with poor Delboy! has this now been sorted? i personally would advise that you be upfront with the vet and explain that you are having financial worries at the moment and that you feel unable to pay their bill in full at the moment. offer to pay as much as you can up front so that they can see you are not having them on and are genuine. then set up a payment plan with them, say £20.00 a week or whatever you can affor. i would hope that they would accept this. let us know how you get on. 30 Aug 2008 11:16 Hello Julie, Welcome to both yourself and your pets to PetStreet.....enjoy the site!. 30 Aug 2008 10:14 hi vena, thank you so much :0) i think im going to like it here, its a great site 30 Aug 2008 08:58 Hi Julie welcome to PS, so sorry about your predicament and im sure someone will be able to advise you. 30 Aug 2008 08:36 Hi everyone I am a newbie, I have 2 cats and 2 dogs.
