Neutering in my area costs £27 look up "budget vets" to see if they practice in your area. I had my kitten neutered today. 26 Sep 2008 14:42 hi suzanne i have got pet insurance on both my cats how do you think i have afforded treatment for my oldest cat which was attacked by a dog and just about to have an operation!! but the insurance i have got doesnt COVER my cat for pregnancy or anything that happens to her because of the pregnancy! and i even phoned the RSPCA and again they have said the same as all of the pet insurance companies i phoned they will not cover for the pregnancy, this is why i was asking advice, thank you to every one else for your advice and kindness, i will let you know how things go!! 26 Sep 2008 12:13 Firstly..welcome to PetStreet Gemma!. Secondly,I´ve just read your post and accidents can and do happen....that is life and nobody´s perfect!....I am sure all will be fine and well with your female and do please remember that a majority of animals are incredibly adaptable and instinctively able to overcome, most things in life, including pregnancies and labour even when younger then they should be to become a mother,so your female will probably naturally sail through this, with no worries. It´s good to be prepared though, should veterinary assistance be required and following Cat´s advice below,it would be good to know that you have veterinary back up,if so needed,al;beit from the PDSA,RSPCA or another such Organisation. Make a few phonecalls and see what help you can get, just in case you need them but with any luck..your little female will do everything normally and with no difficulties,as Mother Nature intend´s. All the best now and do keep us posted on how things go,on this post...thank you!. 26 Sep 2008 11:36 Suzanne as a veterinary nurse surely its your job to Help and advise people NOT criticize, or judge !!! Vets and veterinary nurses should stick to being vets/nurses not judge and jury, end of story, as for people not taking on pets unless they can afford all the vet: treatment, ive said before circumstances can sometimes change overnight, therefor genuine people can find themselves in financial trouble through no fault of there own. 25 Sep 2008 22:13 I did not mean to make you sound like you didnt care for your animals or that you delibately are cruel, HOWEVER you did state you couldnt afford her veterinary treatment if she needed it. I work in a veterinary practice and you would not believe how often we see people who obtain a pet (often an expensive pedigree) and then find themselves unable to pay for treatment when its required, so its something i am familar with. i just feel that if you have a pet you should be able to take care of them financially at any time. i always recommend pet insurance, or a savings account. i didnt mean any offence to you. 25 Sep 2008 11:14 thanxs for all your comments yes i do agree with all of you as far as i should of got her neutured and it was my mistake i put my hands up to that even though i have never let her out!! but just for the record suzanne i love my cats very much and would never be cruel to them and i do NOT agree with animal cruelty!! all was asking for was some advice, i have already taken her to the vets and he said the same as cat and i would NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! refuse treatment for my cats EVER!!! if they needed it they WOULD!!!!!!!!!!! have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one way or another so i really dont apperacaite you making me sound out like i do not care for MY animals or i would be cruel too them as that IS NOT THE CASE!!!!!!!!!!! 22 Sep 2008 17:53 let things take there natural course i am sure she will be fine my advice would be when she has had the kittens sell then for 20 or 30 pound each and use the money to get her neutured so that way you wont end up in that situation again because mistakes do happen you cant change it she will be fine get a nice big cardboard box with a heat pad in it prepared in a quiet spot of the house and let nature take its course x 21 Sep 2008 15:12 Hi Gemma, Suzanne is right, it is rare for cats to require a casearian but if they do they are expensive. However, if the kittens are not due for a few more weeks, it may be possible for the vet to still spay her. Depending on how far through the pregnancy she is, they may or may not charge you anymore than a normal spaying charge. The majority of the growth of the kittens in the womb occurs during the the final 2-3 weeks and up until this time they are still very small. If you cannot face this, then you should get her spayed when the kittens are about 6 weeks old and fully weaned. You shouldn´t let her out at all until this time as there is a chance she could get pregnant again. I realise it is too late in your case but all female cats should be spayed at 6 months old to prevent exactly this situation. Also, sometimes the RSPCA will provide veterinary care for low income families, but you have to have an RSPCA hospital in your area. You should also contact the CPL ( Cats Protection League) as they can provide spaying vouchers which will cover some of the cost of the operation. I hope this helps Cat 20 Sep 2008 09:03 you need to get her checked by the vet, and to let them know your situation. If she does require veterinary assistance, YOU must get it done. pets are a big responsability and you should always make sure you can pay for emergency veterinary treatment one way or another. Not doing this can be classed as animal cruelty. Most vets will allow you to pay up treatment. Cats do not usually require emergency c-sections so fingers crossed for you. I realise it wasnt your fault she got pregnant (though she really should have been spayed) so i dont mean to sound so harsh, but you cant deny her treatment if she requires it. |
