The cats will groom so much they will make themselves bald. There are 2 main reasons for over-grooming. The first is fleas, fleas make cats very itchy, and when cats are itchy they do not scratch like dogs, they groom themselves. The second is stress. Cats are very sensitive to stress and they will often use grooming as a displacement activity, to the point where they will make themselves bald. If you are unhappy with your vet and still concerned about your cat, then you should seek a second opinion, either at the same practice or a different one. A good vet will take the time to explain to you the possible causes of the problem and the treatment they are going to try. However, particularly in the case of stress related over-grooming, problems like these can be complex and may take some time to resolve. Do let us know how you get on. I just kept brushing him and I mix some ´4 Joints´ oil in with his first meal of the day and he is tons better now. The pain could be a bit of arthritis and that oil really helps that. I would still seek a vet though, like Gill says as it might be something else!! 05 Oct 2008 13:23 Take her to another vet. They might do a scraping to make sure there are no lurgies. It might be just a plain ol´ allergy to somethign. best to get her back to a vet to be sure. Good luck |
