stitches

our greyhound beth cut the front of her leg ,like a square, the vet pulled the skin down and stitched it on 3 sides ,the cut was about 2 inches long, she had the stiches out a few at a time over the week, and each time the wound bled, she said this was quiet natural and gave beth antibiotics, when she took the last stitches out her leg was still bleeding but said this was usual and discharged her,the wound still looks sore and red,do you think i should go back ,i think she will think i,m causing a fuss.

Hi Patricia,

If the skin is holding then hopefully the wound should heal. If the vet had to pull the skin quite tightly to get the edges together then there may well be some post operative soreness. Also, make sure she isn´t licking or bothering at the wound, this will also cause soreness.

If you are concerned, I would pop her back for them to take a look. You wouldn´t necessarily need to see a vet, a nurse may well be able to advise and reassure you

I would say (if it were me) i would take her back to the vet. don´t worry about "causing a fuss", you are concerned. You need assurance. Get the vet to explain to you why "this is usual". If your dog is scratching it, or trying to lick it, then get back to the vet anyway.
good luck xx
