How many Litter Trays? (Posted to "Cats" too)

my mum had 6 cats and just one large tray which she cleaned regularly

i have 4 cats and i put down 3 trays all next to each other my cats have no problems with the trys ... or whare we put them

I heard its one per cat plus one extra you need to keep them a good distance apart and not too out in the open. Though i have to be honest and say we used to have 5 cats and just 2 trays but they were cleaned out daily.

Looking through the draft Code of Practice Pg9. The recommendation is "provide at least one litter tray per cat"and on Pg16 "In multi cat households there should be enough space, litter trays and feeding areas for cats to be able to avoid each other". So there you have it, clear as mud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont think there is a lega requirement for the amount of litter trays but i think the general rule of thumb is one per cat plus one extra.
