All animals being kept outside...Please think about how cold it is at the moment and how your piggys and buns maybe feeling. If you can bring them in until it warms up that is a brillant but if you cant please make sure you: Clean them out, make sure they are not damp Give them plenty of fresh bedding to munch on and sleep on dont forget piggys will eat nearly all they have by the morning!!!! Cover the hutch with blackets then a tarpaulin Cover bottles with thick socks to try and prevent them from freezing Make sure they have plenty to munch on dried food and veggies!!! If you hutch is out in the open try and move it into a shed or in a shelterd area if you can put your outside animals in a shed this will make the world of difference! Heat pads can be purcahsed from online stores and in petstores they heat up and can keep pigs and buns warm through the night. If anyone has any other great tips for keeping our animals warm and snug please add them! I also will sometimes leave the back door open for the boy to run in and out, my female rabbit is rather phobic of the indoors so she´ll maybe poke her head in to see Chesters gone. I do what I can to make the outdoor hutch as insulated and warm as possible. 15 Jan 2009 22:37 Description They arent one bit keen on the cold weather Carole....!! They run about indoors instead. I found a great new toy that the guineas AND rabbits love. It´s a foldaway tube from Pets at Home. It´s made of wipe clean fabric & you tie it up when not in use like a concertina then, when you want it, you just untie the straps & it pops into shape. It has its own case too which is flat. It´s brilliant for storage & all the furries love it. It comes in 3 sizes... I think my lot are just spoilt but I couldnt leave them outside all winter. They even come in at night in the summer...!! 11 Jan 2009 09:58 Member Removed great tips Dazie especially for new owners. Those snugglesafe heat pads are great aren"t they! Do your bunnies still want to run about outside when it"s cold Rosie and Vicky. Flossie just seems to want to lie in front of the heating when it"s cold, I am wondering whether to feed her a bit less in case she gets fat while she is less active! Woody, my cat, likes tomato sauce he licks it off sardines and pilchards I think he prefers it to the fish, haha! 09 Jan 2009 00:21 Description Great reminders Dazie - it has been very cold lately. My lot are all in now until the Spring...... Piggies & Buns all snuggle down in my extensionin their indoor pens. All outside hutches cleaned, painted & ready for the Springtime.. Patch is very cheeky Vicky...!! Fancy stealing your soup??!! He knows what he likes doesnt he..LOL 05 Jan 2009 18:48 I´ve put Patch´s hutch cover over his hutch hopefully to keep it a bit warmer, with a bungee cord tied around it so it dosen´t fly open but he can still get air =) Also heated his heat pad up and added lots of hay! He loves a tiny lick of tomato soup every now and then to warm him up hehe (sticks his head inside my mug of it) |
