The Codes of PracticeRegarding the Codes of Practice for Dogs, Cats & Equines which are now in force in Wales (& will be in England too shortly). Is there anything in them that anyone finds confusing, not achieveable or just plain daft?? I´d be interested to hear peoples views on this. They can be found here (short & full versions) http://new.wales.gov.uk/topics/environmentcountryside/ahw/animalwelfare/pets/codesofpractice/?lang=en From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 18 Mar 2010 22:13 Poo Bear - The Spindles Farm family have already been sentenced. What the police found there was disgusting and shame on you for defending people who have no empathy for an animal´s suffering. Is that why you are on PetStreet - to defend people who hate animals? 18 Mar 2010 21:22 the rspca in north somerset are not as keen as i feel they should be it is very difficult to just wait for something to be done when you have reported everal times and the animals are still suffering. 17 Jun 2009 22:09 Before forming more opinions concerning Spindles Farm and the family I strongly suggetst people who are genuinely interested to attend the appeal trial to hear evidence first hand instead of forming opinions based on hearsay. Just my advice. 28 Mar 2009 22:26 Absolutely Anna. I think this is all to do with the ´Nanny State´ where no-one is expected to take responsibility for their actions.. It´s always someone elses fault... You look at any news report, inquest etc & the accused always tries to blame someone else. Still, I firmly believe that what goes around comes around. My friend phoned me earlier, distraught. She was driving home with her husband along a dual carriageway and witnessed another driver DELIBERATELY ran a pheasant over. Why would anyone do that??? There was no need for it. She said he could have easily avoided it but he deliberately drove straight at it. I worry that people are becoming desensitised to suffering & cruelty & I also firmly believe that what children see on TV has an affect on their mind. All the ´violent´ cartoons like, for example, itchy & scratchy on the Simpsons.. I´ve seen 7 year olds laughing at it when the cat gets his head chopped off & blood spurts everywhere.Yes it´s a cartoon but the content is still infiltrating childrens minds.. Whoops went off the subject a bit there. Sorry!! 27 Mar 2009 08:34 "Look at the shambles at Spindlers Farm.. The locals reported the guy on numerous occasions over a 12 month period & nothing was done" I so agree with you, Rosie. I know so many cases where people have tried desperately to get SOMEBODY to do SOMETHING about suffering animals - but then what do you expect in a country where approximately two children a week are killed in their own homes (a figure which hasn´t changed since Victorian times). "Consequences" is a word that has simply disappeared from our language. 24 Jan 2009 16:37 Description Dont apologise Sarah... Questions need to be asked & the more the better.. There is a Code of Practice being done right now for rabbits. It´s in the consultation period which means that anyone who registered to go on the consultees list was sent a copy of the Code & invited to comment on it. Many ´official´ groups were invited on to the list like the British Rabbit Council, Rabbit Welfare, veterinary surgeons etc etc so they automatically received a copy of the Code to comment on. I expect there will be further Codes in the future as many pets are ´confined´ - not just rabbits. The National Hamster Council has had a Code of Practice in place for years which is regularly updated. All member clubs affiliated to the NHC have to follow the Codes. It would be very useful for ALL small furry societies to get a Code in place, and approved, before others do it for them!! 22 Jan 2009 12:51 Sorry to keep asking questions about this Rosie but are there Codes of Practice coming out for other animals soon too, ie bunnies, small caged animals etc? 12 Jan 2009 15:39 thanks for that link rosie, that site is much clearer and the codes of practice are set out quite clearly. the site i looked at a while back was really confusing with information all over the place! have bookmarked the link and shall go through it in details within the next few days. really do appreciate all the work you are putting in to this for us. 10 Jan 2009 23:12 Description Perhaps they´re more worried because it involves travellers who are less likely to quiver at the sight of an RSPCA Inspector.. Animal suffering is the same across the board irrespective of whether the owners are hard nut travellers or little old ladies with a budgie.. Look at the shambles at Spindlers Farm.. The locals reported the guy on numerous occasions over a 12 month period & nothing was done (probably because he is a nasty piece of work) - until the the media got involved then it was all action. Makes you wonder how many other horses could have been saved.. Anyhow, the Duty of Care applies to ALL and every concern should be reported & followed up by the authorities. |
