What can you catch?

Hi,

I´m sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but i had to ask.
My 15 week old kitten has slept in our bed since the day we had him and recently has had the sneezes. He isn´t ill with it just snuffly....but when he has been in bed, sleeping by my face he has sneezed and it´s gone all over my face.....he has just had his first 2 vaccinations.....I can´t catch anything from him sneezing all over me can I?
Thanks
Hayley x

Hi Hayley,

The majority of the causes of sneezing in young kittens are viral and viruses are extremely species specific. This means it is highly unlikely that you will catch them. However, the mucous in cats noses is also likely infected with bacteria, which are able to live in different animals, although I would be very surprised if they caused you any problems unless your immune system was weak.

I hope this puts your mind at rest!
