Thin conti bunny!

Hi,
I bought my female, conti bunny last Sunday (8th March) she wasn´t very well when I bought her but I said I would take her anyway! She had a bad belly for the 1st few days but has settled down now! She is nussling, culcking, active, eating (lots) and drinking but she is still very boney! Have you got any good ideas, any foods or supplements that mite help...PLEASE! We already love her to bits and apart from her pulling appart my rug she is very well behaved! She was an outdoor bunny but now lives indoors!
Any help would be very gratefully recieved!
Many thanx Caz

Hi Caz,

At the moment, as long as she is bright, healthy and eating well, then I wouldn´t be too concerned about her weight. If she is healthy and eating a good diet then she should naturally put weight on, special supplements shouldn´t be needed. However, if she start to show signs of a problem, or develops her previous symptoms of diarrhoea then you should take her to your vet. Rabbits are very good at hiding the signs of illness and can seem fine when in fact they are not very well.

I think the best thing to do at the moment is continue as you are and weigh her regularly to ensure she is gaining weight. If you are at all concerned then you should contact your vet for more advice.

if it were me i would get her checked out by a vet to ensure there are no underlying causes of the tummy upsets or any ongoing problems. then just feed as normal, ie plentiful supply of fresh, good quality hays, small amount of pellet / dry food and small amount of fresh veg per day. as long as the vet says she is healthy then i am sure she will start to put on weight but it will be and should be a gradual process. once she is healthy you should seriously consider getting her a companion as rabbits really do need company of their own kind. hope she continues to improve.
