Feeding two cat seperatlyHI My family and I are seriously considering getting another cat to join Lucy. The problem is that Lucy is a fussy little cat. She doesnt like to eat till late at night which is a problem as my brother really wants to take responsibility for feeding the new cat. Another problem is that Lucy is GREEDY and would without a doubt finish off any food available. I was wandering if anyone else has encountered the same problem and if so how they dealt with it and also if there are any feeders that could be activated by the new cat, Like with a tag on the collar like a cat flap. Thanks Alex From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 01 May 2009 12:02 i agree with mary, its not easy having cats in the same house on different diets and feeding times. i have 3 cats, 1 is overweight and needs to eat less, 1 is hypersensitive to foods and needs a special diet and the other is pretty easy, can be a bit fussy but will mostly eat wherever i ask her to, whenever i ask her to..however, she doesn´t eat very quickly and risks the fatty pushing her out of her food so he can have it! basically i have 3 feed stations, coco´s (the hypersensitive one) in the kitchen, kenny´s (the fat one) in the downstairs hall and Fudge (the easy one) in the bedroom / hallway upstairs. i leave biscuits out for them to free-feed on and these are positioned in the kitchen and in the hallway upstairs. the biscuits are iams light and james wellbeloved light (in aid of kenny being a piggy i am hoping that even if he does eat a lot, they won´t be quite so bad for him - however, to be honest, he doesn´t seem to eat that many biscuits..probably cos he only has 2 teeth, bless him!!) at meal times i prepare each cat´s individual meal and then put Coco´s down first, then kenny´s and then go upstairs to feed fudge. i sit with her while she eats. when she has had enough i take it and put it out of reach of all cats. i then go and pick coco´s up as she too doesn´t eat all her food in one go, and again, put this out of reach. kenny normally finishes his all up. then throughout the morning or evening i just re-offer the wet food to fudge and coco when they ask for it or when im in the room with them or whatever. this is the only way i can get round it as if i just left their bowls down, kenny would eat the lot! 01 May 2009 10:35 Try out this link below and see if this would be any good: http://www.pet-mate.com/Cat_Mate/Feeders/Petfeeders_UK.htm I´m not sure if this would be any good but may be useful if you can put it into one room for your cat that like´s eating late at night, leaving your brother the feeding regime of the newbie. My cat´s have different diets and 4 bowls are sited in another room whilst another 2 are sited in the lounge for the cat with a sensitive diet.......when we´re not around, the door is kept shut so that Thai is at peace and can come and go as she please´s....but when we´re around,if the other´s jump up to eat her food...it we simply remove them and show them their own food bowls. It´s not easy keeping food bowls away from all cats in the same household so maybe it would be an idea to feed just enough to the new cat,so that it eat´s it all up straight away, then Lucy won´t gobble down the rest. I hope the above advice may be of some use to you anyhow...good luck. |
