Rat Injury

My dumbo rat Harry had a accident the other day, whilst he was climbing he attempted a jump from between the mouse cage to the chair (he can normally sucessd) but failed and hurt his foot.
There is no visable injury and he doesnt seem to be in much pain but he wont walk on his foot and just holds it up when he walks.
What should i do?

Hi Emily,

If he will not put any weight on his foot then it is likely that it is painful for him and he may have even broken something. If he is no better today then the best thing to do would be to take him to your vet. They will be able be give him pain relief and hopefully help him to feel better. They are unlikely to suggest further treatmen such as x-rays as rats are so small it would be difficult to see a break and the only real treatment option would be rest and pain killers anyway.
