Orphaned Wild Rabbit Baby

My cat Izzy brought in a baby rabbit the other day, and i dont know what to do!
I´ve been feeding it cowmilk since tuesday and it is reasonably happy.
She is about 15cm long and is quite young.
Can i have some advice please on how to take care of her please?

Hi Emily,

This is a difficult situation as this is a wild rabbit and no matter how hard you try it is very unlikely to adapt to life in captivity and with humans. Probably the best thing to do is to contact your local vets and ask if they know of a wild animal rescue in your area, or contact the RSPCA as they do have wild animal rehabilitation centres in some areas of the country. You could attempt to release it back into the wild but I don´t know whether it would be accepted back by the other rabbits.

I know it sounds harsh but these options are probably less cruel than trying to keep it in captivity.

Hi Emily

You could take a look at this site:

I would probably give my vet or the RSPCA a call for advise.

I wonder if it´s a domestic rabbit that´s been abandoned or is it a wild hare? My cat has caught a few wild baby hares but I´ve managed to free them from his clutches and let them go.

Hope you find help. You´re a good woman.
