Pups do not have the reserves of adult dogs and can very quickly dehydrate if they stop eating and drinking, regardless of what caused the illness in the first place. She may have eaten something which has upset her tummy, a very common problem in inquistive puppies (!) and simply require medication to settle it down. However, of more concern is when they eat something solid that gets stuck inside. This can be very serious indeed and require emergency treatment and even surgery. It is best to try to stop them chewing things they shouldn´t but that is not an easy task! You could try the ´Bitter Bite´ sprays that are available from your vet or I have found chilli oil can be very helpful, if the surface will take it, to try to stop her. Also, terriers are very intelligent and can get easily bored, especially if they are left for periods of time. Try leaving her with puzzle toy, such as a Kong, these can be stuffed with biscuits and the dog has to play with them to get them out. These will often keep them entertained for hours, especially if you use her ordinary diet ration so she is hungry and has to work for her breakfast! Take her to your vets and see what they say, hopefully she will be back to her bouncy self quite soon! Cat |
