You may not agree with me, but I think this police officer should be given a little more slack. I doubt he is thick, simply made a mistake and one he has to live with for the rest of his life. I have seen how police dog handlers treat their dogs - they are family pets, they live at home with them, and they usually care deeply for them. I agree it was a stupid thing to do, but he got distracted. He did not deliberately leave these dogs for an intentionally long period, like the idiots who leave their dogs in the car and go shopping. He is probably devastated and will never forgive himself, and much is being made of this terrible incident just because he is a copper. More attention should be paid to people who leave their dogs deliberately, who go shopping in the sales and leave their dogs tied up outside for an hour or so.

Scary that someone so thick could be a policeman let alone responsible for the lives of devoted and highly trained colleagues.
