TitleMember Removed My PDSA want ME to bring a sample of my cat´s urine! I got enough just to cover a cotton bud - is this enough? Put it into a human urine sample bottle. From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 25 Aug 2009 19:45 Hi Diane, Unfortunately that is not going to be enough for a test. You will need to collect at least a couple of mls for your vet to run the usual tests and possibly more if they want to do more extensive analysis. The best way to collect a urine sample from a cat is to use a special litter which is available from your vet. Use it in the tray as normal but don´t place any newspaper in it. The litter is designed so the cat can still scratch around in it and use the tray as normal but it doesn´t change the urine in any way so it can be tested. I usually advise my clients who need to collect a urine sample from a cat to shut the cat in the kitchen or bathroom for the night (so if it refuses to use the tray you could collect a sample from the clean floor) with the litter tray. In the morning you should take whatever urine is in the tray to your vet, storing it in the fridge until you can get it there. It is ´the fresher the better´ when it comes to urine, so try to get it in as soon as possible. If in the morning the cat hasn´t produced anything, don´t allow it out and get it to the vet as soon as possible. If they have been crossing their legs their bladder should be fairly full and your vet may be able to collect a sample via a needle. I hope this helps.
