My 11 year old cat Toby started to lose weight and feel vey boney, he was also very hyper and hungry. The vet diagnosed a hyper active thyroid and he´s been on medication for 2 years. He´s back to his old self now. Good luck with your puss, he´s very beautiful. 17 Sep 2009 13:40 Hi Ellen, The best thing to do would be to take him along to your vets for a check-up and to be weighed. It is always a concern when an older animal starts to lose weight. Also, in cats weight loss can be difficult to pick up on in the early stages, so if you are noticing it it is likely to be significant. When you book an appointment, request a morning slot and make sure he hasn´t eaten for the 12 hours previously. This means that if your vet is concerned and wants to take blood tests, they should be able to do so there and then, saving you another trip. Cat |
