Christmas outreach

Christmas can be an especially lonely and difficult time for people who are homeless or in housing crisis. That’s why Dogs Trust Hope Project works to keep Christmas special for our clients and their dogs.

More and more homelessness organisations are opening specialist short-term projects, such as Crisis Open Christmas, to ensure that their clients are not forgotten during the festive season. Dogs Trust works with these projects to ensure they are able to accept clients with dogs and to provide them with all the advice, information, and doggie items they need.

Veterinary Entitlement Card Scheme

Dogs Trust Hope Project provides free veterinary treatment for dogs whose owners are homeless or in housing crisis through our Veterinary Entitlement Card Scheme.

The scheme allows homeless dog owners to apply for an entitlement card for their dog through participating homelessness organisations, such as hostels, day centres and shelters.

The entitlement card enables the holder to access free and subsidised veterinary treatment for their dog at participating veterinary surgeries across the UK.

it really bothers me to see them out thare to think of both dog and owner out in the cold when its raining on nights like tonight ... never give money .... i go to the shop and get a can of dog food for the dog and a sanwich for the person ...
they do get help with vaccs last year the northwest had ppl go out and help them the give the dogs the yearly vacs pluss a doggie coat ..... they helped quite a few ppl out of all of the 1 person was required to find a home for his dog becose she was due to have pups any day when the pups were born ... he took his dog but didnt wont the pups they ended up in a centre ... rember that little dog is the only freind they have the only thing left in thare life that loves them many times they will feed the dogs before them selfs ......

in the particular job i was in years ago .. i saw an old boy going into T^^^O and filling his ruck sack up with dog food ..(ok it was not the most expencive) but the dog always had plenty.. and they are company and a friend .. this old chap used 2 sleep on a bench .. and the dog was always snuggled up with him .. xxx

I DID NOT SAY THEY DID NOT CARE EMOTIONALY BUT THEY CANNOT PROVIDE SURLEY? AND I DID NOT MEAN IT MAKES ME LAUGH BECAUSE IT WAS FUNNY ITS JUST SO UNBELIEVABLE...IT JUST CANT BE RIGHT. I SAW A DOG IN EDINBRUGH EVERY BONE WAS SHOEING ITS COAT WAS DARK EVEN THOU IT WAS A YELLOW LAB AND IT HAD BAULD PATCHES ALL OVER IT BUT DID NOT LOOK OLD THATS WHAT I THINK IS A SIN. WHEATHER PEOPLE ARE HOMELASS BY CIRCUMSTANCE OR NOT A TRUE ANIMAL LOVER WOULD NOT TAKE AN ANIMAL TO LIVE LIKE THAT SURLEY THE KIND THING TO DO WOULD BE TO GIVE IT TO DOGS TRUST ETC

It does seem strange but the dogs always look well fed and content. I think the homeless people need them for company and also protection.

they do always look well cared for, well groomed and loved and well fed.

Homeless people care deeply for there dogs, its the only true friend they have and can trust, i see quite a few when in town and all look happy and healthy, and are always lying on something warm, saw a beautiful GSD the other day so well behaved a credit to his owner.
they get help with Vacc, food and vetinary treatment.

i dont think its a lauging matter, whenever i see a homeless person who is maybe not there by choice, with a pet i usually would buy some treats for the pet,

i don´t know nettie, i think that some people just get animals and don´t realise what it will cost them for their up keep.
do you mean the homeless street people that have dogs with them?? i think that some do it to get sympathy but also i think that some are genuine animal lovers and DO try to look after their dogs.
