my guinea pig is bleeding =(

well i have a 1 and a half year old guinea pig called dusty, and currently she has not been eating her food or drinking at all and has just been sat in her bed and i think she is hiding, she has started to make weird noises a bit like wheezing and she dislikes being picked up now. i feed and give both of my guinea pigs water every single day and make sure they are cleaned out every other day. but last night i got worried because i went to check on my guinea pigs and dusty had been bleeding on the sawdust and there was blood patches all over, i checked my other guinea pig to see if she was bleeding too but she is fine and putting on weight fine, but as for dusty she looks like she is loosing it, and she is also losing fur around her privates. i got a damp clean cloth and washed the area, and it looked like she has got diorreah aswell but it doesnt show on the bedding. so from now i am stuck and have no clue what is wrong with her, i just want her to be okay. because my sister had this problem with her hamster and she died, we later found out that she had a cyst that was the size of a golf ball. please just help me, i want to make sure she is okay, and if not then i can take her to a vet straight away.

thank you xx

Hi Amanda,

I think your Guinea Pig sounds really poorly and I think you should take her to see your vet as soon as possible. Firstly, the bleeding is an extremely serious and concerning symptom and secondly Guinea pigs, because they are prey animals in the wild, will only show even mild symptoms of illness when they are very sick indeed.

It is difficult to say what the causes of the bleeding could be, it is unusual in such a young pig. It could be coming from the rectum, which would indicate severe diarrhoea, from the bladder, Guinea pigs often suffer from cystitis or painful bladder stones, or from her uterus, which could indicate a growth of some kind.

If you haven´t already, take her to your vet as soon as possible, they will be able to help you.
