Are you claiming job seekers allowance or Housing benifit? If you are then the PDSA will see your cat. They only ask for a small contribution as it is not goverment funded. Hope this Helps. :)

Hi Emma,

Blood in the faeces is not always as concerning as you might think, especially if it is otherwise well formed and the animal is well in themselves.

If the blood is red and fresh it means it is coming from the final portion of the intestinal system, the rectum, which is essentially the evacuation chamber for the faeces and where it spends the longest. If there is anything irritant in there this is where it spends the longest, so the tissue lining of the rectum becomes easily inflamed and inflamed tissue bleeds readily. You should always monitor any abnormality in the poo but of more concern than small volumes of red blood, is large amounts or black faeces (which indicates bleeding further up the intestinal system which is more serious).

The most common cause of this type of problem is worms, so you should ensure your cat is wormed with a veterinary standard wormer (the only one available over-the-counter is Drontal). However, if the bleeding doesn´t settle after this, worsens or the cat becomes poorly in itself, you should seek veterinary attention. Most large cities will have a PDSA or an RSPCA who will treat animals free for those on low incomes.

Let me know how things go.
