Dogs Today article on shaving, epilating or waxing dogs????Member Removed I cannot believe this article nor the fact that people can do these heinous acts on dogs. Epilating is, as many women know, ripping the hair out from the roots and is very painful yet people are doing this on their showdogs... yet when I state that I do not agree with showing dogs I am the one getting abused by the show people.... Am I the one performing such cruelty? On one forum someone had put up a thread about this and one lady informed the forum that she cuts off her spaniels whiskers because "she was told to". Whilst onviously I am not against clipping and grooming dogs for their comfort etc anything more than that or done for aesthetics for showing is going against nature. What do others think? From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 28 Apr 2010 08:52 Ally quote)l state that I do not agree with showing dogs )haven´t anything against people who do show their dogs,) im a tad confused.??? This is not the first time you have badmouthed dog showing and show dogs, l´d be interested to know if you have any personal experience in showing dogs, attending dog shows ,have spoken with genuine show people, ect: or if your assumptions are based on reading ´Dogs Today and the PDE program. 28 Apr 2010 08:32 Member Removed It is good to see we can have differing views without the mudslinging on some forums. I agree with most of what´s been put below and haven´t anything against people who do show their dogs, I just personally wouldn´t but I respect others views as hopefully they respect mine. The article says that it is mainly breeds like Chinese Cresteds that are epilated or waxed; and whilst I like to see a dog groomed and clipped if required including their ears if necessary, i just think that the waxing etc. is extreme and cruel. Thank god people are here are adult - I made a joke yesterday on the other forum with this thread about collecting our dogs from the groomers having given Ruby and Brazilian with a heart shaped bit and Dyson having had a back, sack and crack and someone on there is reporting me for cruelty to my dogs and others were up in arms that I was slating them for waxing/shaving or epilating and had done that to our 2... when I told them i was making a joke they were not amused and thought I was actually having a dig at their practices.... I know I have a rather warped sense of humour but surely anyone could see in that scenario I was joking? Heyho! 27 Apr 2010 20:18 I am not against showing dogs and it is nice to see a well groomed dog but I couldn´t agree with epilating, waxing or the removal of whiskers. Millie is a working type springer and has a fairly short coat, so I only take her to the groomers 2/3 times a year. She always has her ears/paws/tail and feathers tidied. I´ve never had her clipped/shaved and never would coz I like her to look tidy but as natural as possible. I have had her ears plucked coz of infection probs and I sometimes pluck out any dead hair myself from the top of her head etc (she just loves this, not, but it´s better than looking like Rod Stewart, LOL). 27 Apr 2010 18:26 I had bloss in again for another cut her groomer is very good and adores animals certain customers have been asking her to dye certain parts of their dogs and some want a glitter spray so to oblige she is offering this service and jokingly asked me would I like Blossom dyed or glittered I just said a mud spray would be fine haha. Her attitude is first and foremost shes a business and she will do within reason what the customer asks but would never do anything to cause an animal distress. 27 Apr 2010 17:55 OMG how can this be possible???? Epilating HURTS i can´t even take the pain of it how on earth could anyone do that to a dog thats just plain crule!!!!!!! As for clipping as you all know I have a collie/springer mix a total mug and poop magnet during the summer months (she jsut been done a couple of weeks ago) I have her clipped short leaving just a skirt on she stays clean (great for me lol) and also for her as no brambles tangle in her mad coat. Of course I use only the nicest kindest groomer who loves Tinsel. 27 Apr 2010 15:49 Not enough information I am afraid, exactly which breeds is this being done to ?and why?, as a judge I have never seen it done to any breed I have judged and I have judged most, would also just like to ask why all people showing dogs are and I quote abusing there dogs, my dogs are top class show dogs very well known, however first and formost they are much loved pets, they have the best of everything, , I think you should refrain from insulting people just because you don´t like showing, I would not be so rude as to insult you for your opinion, I just ask you to try not to be so rude to others who don´t happen to agree. I agree with you both as usual VENA and MARY as always good examples of putting your views across without insulting anyone who disagree´s. 27 Apr 2010 15:07 Not sure how widespread Epilating is, but i do love to see a well clipped /trimmed dog, some breeds are prone to ear infections and others have heavy hair growth in ears so they are ´plucked´ not just for the show ring but health reasons to. l cant see why you are so against the showing of dogs,to most owners (including myself)they are ´family pets first and foremost´ and the showing side treated as a bonus and hobby. 27 Apr 2010 11:17 Member Removed I´d like to do it to the owners who inflict that on thier dogs and of course we´d all like to do the same to sex offenders, murderers, paedophiles and the likes teehee 27 Apr 2010 11:15 WAXING ! come on girls we all know how painfull that is ,,, why would you put wax on a animal and do that thats evil if you ask me why do ppl even get animals if they wont to change everything about it cutting parts off here and thare removeing wiskers or on some claws ! ,,,, |
