hi, i need some advice about my 1yr old yorkie peeing in the house

i was just wondering if anyone had any advice to give, my problem is with my 1 yr old yorkie, i am doing really well with the housetraining, take them out to yard every hour or so where they do have a wee and i praise them them for it, also i take them out for walk at night to do business before bed too, however my yr old jack seems to pee on stuff for the hell of it, not because he needs to, we had just came in from a walk and there was my daughters quilt on floor and right in front of us he cocked his leg to pee on it, he has done on my bed and other items too. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. xx

Lorraine if you have more then one dog in the house that are not neutured then they will scent mark, I have 7 pups that are now 9 months old & they are sleeping in crates at the moment due to one of the female pups being in season, I have not had it as bad as you but my male pups will scent mark anything on the ground in the garden (if one pee´s then other one will pee over the top of the first one this will go on for ages if I don´t seperate them)

Sounds like he could be ´marking´ if you have a crate id put him strait into it after a walk, with a bone or stuffed kong(they don´t usually mess where they sleep) try and keep him out the bedroom ect: until hes ´broken the habit´,
or follow what Mary has advised x

Hi Lorraine,

Ooooooooo, not a very nice problem to have happen especially when he´s soiling your own personal stuff such as bedding etc.

At 1 years old he is still young BUT that said should no better not to do that, your house training techniques sound perfectly fine so there´s no problem in that quarter....what your dog seem´s to be doing is demonstrating his marking the house and items as his territory even at a young age.

Firstly, I´d try and not let him gain access to stuff that he´s particularly fond to pee on such as quilts, blankets, etc...do not let him gain access to those rooms and set him a house rule - NO bedrooms, that´s your space NOT his!.

Make sure you clean any pee´d on areas and items with an appropiate cleaner that will remove all trace´s of urine and odour as one slightly remaining trace will encourage further urniation.

Watch him like a hawk.....when you see him sniffing, circling and looking like he´s about to cock his leg and pee over or up something, terminate that movement at once with a loud noise such as clapping hands at him and saying firmly and loudly "NO NO NO".......this will distract him immediately and then pick him up and carry him outside.....wait with him until he goes then bring him back inside.....if you can catch him about to do the act itself, this is actually the best remedy because prevention is better than cure and he will soon quickly learn that he must not pee where he is not allowed within the home.

There may be other´s on here that will be able to offer you more help and tips but for now, I´d try that and see if that help´s you out....good luck and all the best with him.
