Have you had particular problems in the past? Most dogs cope fairly well when their owners are away from them unless they have severe separation anxiety problems.

One of the best things for a dog who is left while the owner is away is to try and keep their routine the same as possible. Obviously if they are going into a kennels then this is more difficult but if they are being looked after by a family member then you can let them know what time you normally feed and walk them, where you walk and for how long, so this part of their life remains the same. If they are in a kennels then you should ask if you can take along their bed, toys, food bowl and a blanket so they have as many familiar things around them as possible. Another thing that can really help to reduce stress in kennels is a DAP collar.

If your dog has had severe issues in the past then you are probably best to seek professional behavioural advice.
