is my dog pregnant

my dog has just come of her season and whilst on we caught her and sisters male dog mating. and we´re wondering if shes pregnant. he nipples have got bigger. she would only be like 7 weeks. what signs could look for at this stage. and how much does it cost for a ultrasound.

Hi Hollie,

Dogs are pregnant for about 8 weeks, so if this incident was 7 weeks ago then she will be very far gone at this point. You should take her to your vet and ask them to examine her. If she is at this stage of pregnancy then they should be easily able to tell and give you lots of advice on what to expect and how to deal with the puppies, unfortunately she is too far advanced for an abortion. The price of an ultrasound scan will vary between practices but is likely to be around 50 pounds.

Situations like this show how important it is to keep in season bitches on the lead and supervised at all times, even when they are appearing to be at the end of the cycle. If she isn´t pregnant you must have her spayed very shortly. I now regularly advise pre-season spaying so owners don´t have to deal with the stress of even a single cycle.
