* Child´s Play Causes A Dog´s Death! *

A DOG that bit a three-year-old girl at a Gower beauty spot could soon be destroyed.

According to South Wales Police, the owners of the animal are making arrangements with vets to have it put down following the incident on Friday.

However, it has emerged that the dog was tied-up at the time of the incident, and that a group of children were trying to put a fishing net over its head when it bit the youngster.

The attack happened at around 5pm at the car park by the beach in Port Eynon.

The girl suffered head and facial injuries, and was airlifted to Morriston Hospital.

Inspector Dan Howe said the dog was tied to a motor home at the car park at the time of incident.

He said: "We are not looking at a scenario where someone has a dog bred for fighting.

"The owners of the dog are making arrangements with the vets to have the dog destroyed but that is a matter for them.

"The children put a fishing net over the dog´s head. The owner intervened and told the children not to do it.

"The dog has reacted by biting the child."

It is thought the girl was part of a family group on holiday in the area from Warwickshire.

It is understood the incident is not being treated as a criminal offence as the dog was tethered and under control.

Inspector Howe said: "It is regrettable when children get injured by dogs.

"Very often they can be very serious injuries.

"This was a single bite from the dog which was tied up.

"In these circumstances there is no indication the owners have done anything wrong."

He added: "Our advice is for people not to leave their dog unsupervised with children regardless of how tame the animal is because in certain circumstances any dog can be dangerous if provoked or react unpredictably."

How sad that this incident has been triggered by child´s play gone wrong AND why didn´t the parents or some form of adult supervision stop the children from doing this to the dog in the first place ?????.

When my daughter was about 6, a dog bit her face. The dog was told to sit in a travel agent, the kids kept going up and fussing him, you could see he was trying to edge away from them and every time I told them to leave him alone, the owner declared that he was fine, he loved kids! The stupid idiot could not understand that the weather was far too hot for the dog to even be out, never mind being mauled about by strange kids. I told him that it was his fault, not the dog´s, as he should not be out in that weather and if someone is telling their kids to leave the dog, he should not interfere. I would have been devastated if anyone had suggested having the dog destroyed because of this man´s stupidity. I am disgusted by this whole thing.

I am very sorry for the child, but it´s disgusting that the dog´s owners are not standing by their dog in this, and i just can´t understand why not. Why can´t they see that this wasn´t his fault and having him pts is wrong.

The police don´t seem to think that the dog should be destroyed, so why is the owner doing this? They sound like the sort of people that think dogs don´t bite and that´s an end to the matter. I read an article the other day about a golden retriever that was being pts because it had severely bitten a very young child. Turns out the woman was looking after the dog for a neighbour, and looking after the child for another neighbour, and left them alone together. Of course she got bitten; she probably hurt it. When will people realise that a dog doesn´t think "oh, it´s only a child". A dog will try to defend itself. Bloody disgusting.

Where was the 3 year old parents at the time of the incident & what was the ages of the other children, if anyone was trying to put a fishing net over the head of any of my dogs I would grab the net off them & ram it over their heads & see how they like it.
