TitleHi Ppl, I have this really long haired cat (Norwegan/ankara) and noticed his ears has legions and crustiness (mostly outside). He doesn´t seemed to be too bothered unless touched then he wants me to scratch it. What do you think it might be? There seems to be no other area with this just the ears. Thanks Koray From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 23 Nov 2010 15:12 Hi Koray My cat Toby has a similar condition and my vet has told me that it´s an allergic reaction but she´s not sure what but probably dust mites. She gives me ointment to clean his ears and all´s well again. I´m sure your cat´ll be fine. 19 Nov 2010 23:01 I agree with angie - get it to a vet to check what it is. If you wish to see what damage mites can do ... look in my photo album at Franks bad ear (he was a stray and turned up like it). He needed antibiotics .. mite treatment and ear cleaning. It wasn´t tooo expensive. We have prevented reinfestation by applying advocate flea/mite treatment. It may be serious or not ... but a vet needs to see it. Thanks and good luck. It could be from scratching - but why? Mites maybe? These are quite cheap to treat if caught before serious infestation - and will prevent further suffering. Frank (ex-stray) had mites that caused wounds 19 Nov 2010 12:29 It could be anything from just where he has been scratching/fighting to ringworm to cancer. You should get it checked at the vets to see as if it needs treating it will be cheaper the quicker you get him in. Ringworm can be picked up by humans. If his ears are itchy then they may be an infection. If he scratches too hard then there is a possibility he could damage his ear - I´ve just had to pay over £200 for an op on one of mine as he has ruptured a blood vessel in his ear flap. |
