Cats are naturally solitary creatures and so when they don´t feel well, they do tend to take themselves away and hide rather than seek our attention and reassurance. However, what they don´t do is ´know´ they are going to die and disappear for that reason, they just feel poorly. This is why when any pet goes missing you should do your very best to find it and then if you are at all concernde, take it to a vet. Although if the cat is very old and hasn´t been right for a while the only option may be to euthanse it, that is a far more humane thing to do than allow them to suffer a slow and unpleasant death on their own.
