I was in a similar situation. My cat refused to eat after her companion died, and I even visited a doc and he suggested the same things which were mentioned here already. Cats need a quiet place and we tried not to disturb her but also give her all the attention she needs. We also order flowers ( http://www.serenataflowers.com/Flowers-online
) with a scent which cats like :) Try out Feliway and watch closely how the cat reacts. :)

how old is your remaining cat charlotte? it may be, if she´s quite old, that she may be loosing her marbles a little bit, or possibly her eyesight, and this was not too much of a problem when she had the other cat to rely on - now that your other cat is gone, she may be finding it harder to adjust. there are some things you can do to help this but i won´t go in to them now just in case she´s only a youngster and these things won´t apply, lol! you can pm me if you want :-)

Hi Charlotte, all of Evelyn´s suggestions are good. the best thing you can do for her is to try to fill up her time doing other things, like providing additional stimulation around the home, playing with her more etc. i would try to avoid over-comforting her as this can re-affirm to her that there is really something wrong, try to stay positive and use play time to re-affirm your bond with her. she may take time to come round but this is to be expected. in a lot of cases, even though the remaining cat may pine and initially miss its friend, in time they become more confident and outgoing themselves being an only cat. hugs to you and yours.x

I read somewhere that if you spray Feliway in your home, it helps to destress cats...that might be worth a try too!Hope all goes well with whatever you decide to try.

Also remember that some cats like to hide if they are feeling sad or stressed. Have you got space for it to hide behind a sofa, under your bed, behind a shelf for example? Cats need to feel they can hide away from us sometimes and have quiet time without being disturbed by us humans!

I have read that cats and dogs do pine for owners and other pets in the same household. It is quite normal and nothing to worry about so you should give it a bit of time to get used to being alone. Cats sometimes eat less if they are upset. How about putting out some extra treats , getting a toy ball and filling it with treats so that it has to be earned,or spending a bit more time playing with a fishing rod toy? Do things in your flat to make things more interesting for the cat e.g. putting some cat friendly flowers to scent the air, maybe a few tiny pots of herbs scattered about to introduce new smells to the area?
