Akitas are "really" doing it

2011 has really been a fantastic year for my two wonderful Akitas Max (12) and Adora (11). They have for many years worked tirelessly for several charities helping to fundraise, educate and highlight the increasing number of dogs in need of re-homing. As Blue Cross Education Dogs they are always in great demand to go into schools and youth organisations to teach young people how to act responsibly towards and safely around dogs. In fact we are making a documentary on Channel 4 to this end.
These gentle Canine Ambassadors have received several honours. This year alone they have been awarded with The Unsung Heroes Trophy and this month it has been announced that they are to receive two more very prestigious awards. Firstly the newly struck ENDAL MEDAL which will be presented to them on May 7th at The London Pet Show in Olympia. Secondly and equally as importantly they are to be acknowledged by the Director General of the PDSA (People´s Dispensary for Sick Animals) and presented with a framed certificate acknowledging their many years of "Devotion to Duty"
Last year in 2010 Adora was awarded The Dogs Trust "Dog Star in the Making" at their annual Honours Awards ceremony.
Not to be outshone Max was the very first Akita in the country to successfully pass The Kennel Club Good Citizen GOLD Award and won this class at Crufts in 2009 aged 10 years old which was an incredible way to end his show career.
These lovely old dogs take all this in their stride and continue with their charity work, bless them both.
