Dog with very itchy skin.

Hi everyone
Would like your thoughts please.
Cass is 5, never had any health problems.
About a month ago she started scratching. Flea treated--no change (tho no fleas found either)
It has got worse--she is constantly chewing/licking.scratching and looking at herself as if there´s a problem.

Haven´t changed her food.
Don´t sue sprays in house (neighbours dog had irritated skin & vet reckoned that it was the automatic spray air freshners she used.

odd thing is that this neighbour used to live in this house with same dog--and he had skin problems whole time they lived here. Put down to allergy to wheat and gluten and the air freshener sprays.

it is very hot here, but hasn´t been up til the last week or so. Only change is that until this year dogs had tiled floors to flop on when hot and now I only have wood (divided house so tiles are in part that is let)

Frontlined her again. Shampooed her with Johnson´s Skin Calm shampoo, and applied Johnson´s Tea tree skin cream for dogs which seems to help a little. She´s not had any ticks on her at all all year

Anyone any ideas? Loathe to go to French vet as they tend to just try one thing after another and don´t really investigate problems.

Just to say--I treated everything--the only rug we have in our part of the house, their bed, shampooed both dogs and used the essential oils well diluted that I´ve always used in the past to deter fleas. Result!!! One dog that has almost stopped scratching--it is so much reduced. Going to repeat all the treatments again tomorrow, then weekly--i think you´re right Vena and it was just odd fleas surviving and breeding, wretched things. Cass is much better now.

Pauline have you treated the whole house for fleas, as they can live on in carpets ect.

Thanks Vena. Will try the shampoo. They both have cod liver oil daily. it is easing a little.
Seems odd that dog next door (who also used to live here) has had same problem for years.

Skin problems are a pain and there is many reasons it could be thus making it very hard to track down the cause, the longer it persists the harder to cure as infections can set in l strongly advise a trip to your vet, as it could be anything from an allergy to auto immune problems,.
ln the meantime id use an Oatmeal shampoo as it soothes the skin, you can either buy it or make your own very easy , 1 Cup of Ground Oatmeal 1 Cup of Baking Soda 1 Quart of Warm Water,
grind oatmeal in a blender, or use a coffee grinder make it as powder-like as possible.,
Mix these ingredients together until they form a creamy consistency, some recipes omit the baking soda, though it seems to only be a matter of preference. Completely soak your dog’s coat with water, and then apply this mixture. For best results, try to leave this mixture on your dog’s coat for at least five minutes. After this, you can rinse the oatmeal shampoo from your dog’s coat, then dry them with a gentle towel.
Dog food manufactures sometimes change the formulas without telling so might be worth enquiring about this, ld also add salmon or omega fish oil to dinner to help her skin.
hope this helps.
