Abandoned cat needs new home!!Hi im not sure if this is the right place to post for this. I moved into a new home a few months back and soon after noticed a white cat, that seems to be outside of the house 24hrs a day. Im not sure wether its female or a neutered male, but the cat is very very affectionate and has a collar so it must have belonged to someone at some point. Sadly we have now established that noone is looking after him/her so we have contacted the CPL and after no luck we eventually contacted RSPCA who have been kind enough to book a free vetinary appointment so we can get the cat checked over and treated for any illness or ailments. The RSPCA have said that they will not take him if he is a stray, but will prosecute if we can find out who the owner was. We feel that this cat is not really capable of fending for itself and is possibly to old to. We have fed him/her up till now, but have 3 of our own and are moving again soon. I cant just up and leave the cat on the street, but i cannot take it in. Now that we have established that he is abandoned, the RSPCA have said its ok for us to try and find him a home. Can anyone help? We live in the greater manchester area. xx From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 07 Nov 2011 20:15 I have dealt with several street cats and have cats indoors. You have no luck with the CPL because they do not collect stray cats incase it has an owner who decides to sue them for theft of their cat - apparently though, if you are feeding it for more than seven days ... it is a STRAY OR LOST cat that they should pick up. The RSPCA are, as usual willing to prosecute if YOU do their leg work instead of helping out the homeless cat!! They would say find him a home, so they don´t have to. They did this to me, and said that one cat I asked for help with that was injured "they would come and stick with a needle" ... and left me with fourteen kittens squashed in the road and attacked by dogs. Try the RSPCA again. Tell them the cat is in danger of some sort, tell them you cannot keep it or keep feeding it, its causing trouble with your own cats, the neighbours are getting the hump, the kids are throwing sticks at it - whatever it takes to get the cat off the street. Technically, if you have been feeding the cat for a while, the RSPCA could say its YOURS and come after YOU when you move. If you do get the CPL to help say its your cat but you can´t keep it, its fighting the others and turned up on the doorstep - living outside ... you could do this if you get the RSPCA appointment also. It will then be their problem to find it a home. Fortunately I am a few miles from Battersea in London, and stray dogs and cats that decide to live on my doorstep get taken there. Good luck either finding a new home, or getting some help to. ps thanks for trying to help this cat, I know how tough and frustrating it is. Claire |
