Hi,

Congratulations on your new arrival, I am sure you are in for a lot of fun!

The best place for advice is your local vets, they will be able to fill you in on the details of vaccinations, worming, defleaing and other things. Often clinics also run special puppy parties which can be a great way to learn more, ask questions and meet other people with new puppies.

The main things to consider are; vaccines, pups should have 2 vaccines no less than 2 weeks apart. Worming, they should be wormed with a product from your vet every month for the first 6 months and then every 3 months after that. Fleas, monthly flea treatment is a good idea, even if you can´t see any! Microchipping is vital to ensure your dog is permanently identifiable, most vets will do these along with the second vaccination. Insurance is also a very good idea and starting when the animal is young and has no problems means you can get the best value policy, ensure you get one that covers him for a decent amount of money per condition, around £4-5000, and also which covers him for life. You can also work on his socialisation and training from the word go! Training can start with simple commands in the garden, so you are prepared when you start to take him for walks! Puppy classes are also an excellent idea. His socialising can start now as well. Have lots of people round to your home for him to meet, try to include some children if you don´t have any yourself, while he is small you can carry him out and about to see the big wide world and short car journeys are a very good idea, both for seeing the world and for combating car sickness!
