Individual Pet Cremation now legal for pet sheep & goat owners

I appreciate no one (including me!) wants to think about the death of their pet however I wanted to share this information as it makes such a different to owners of pet sheep & goats.

For some time EU regulations have prevented pet sheep & goats from being individually cremated at a pet crematorium. Owners have had to take their much loved pets to hunt kennels etc that were prevented from returning their ashes due to the law.

The recent change in the regulations means that they can now have an individual pet cremation service at a "Proper" pet crematorium and have their ashes back as long as they do not scatter them on land used for grazing.

Previously sheep and goats were classed as "SRM" (specified risk material), which is why, under the Animal By Products Directive, they had to be treated differently. If a pet crematorium had cremated a sheep or goat during this time they would not have been able to give back ashes from the chamber used until it was reapproved by the Animal Health Department.

Before the goal posts were moved the first time we had looked after many pet goats and so the news that we can do so again is fantastic as it gives back an important choice to owners of pet goats and sheep that want to give their much loved pet a dignified send off.

All the best, Kevin
