RSPCA SHOP, BANS HELPER BRINGING IN HER DOGS.RSPCA volunteer Julia Anderson has blasted the charity´s bosses after they banned her rescue dogs from their shop. Julia was stunned to be told her Staffordshire cross pets Gina and Tully were no longer welcome — despite them coming from a local rescue home run by the charity. A health and safety review has outlawed her pets — despite customers still being allowed to browse the shop´s bric-a-brac with their dogs. Julia, 52, used to let the pair snuggle down behind the counter in Halifax, West Yorkshire. She is a life member of the charity and has been a shop volunteer for 16 years. She said: "It´s ridiculous. The shop raises money for the local RSPCA rescue home and that is where I got my dogs — but they are banned from the shop. "I don´t bring them in every week but if I´ve had nobody else to look after them I have done. "It has never been a problem. They would just snuggle down, they didn´t cause any fuss. Unlike people, they don´t steal charity tins from the counter, or £25 jackets from the rails, drop chewing gum, food or rubbish on the carpet or disrupt the displays. "But last week I was told the rules had changed. It´s absurd when customers can come in with their dogs. "Health and safety is robbing people of common sense." Trustee Kath Airey said the ban was a "blanket decision for all shops". She said if all workers brought dogs to work then risk assessments would be needed along with volunteers´ insurance — and it wouldn´t be possible to predict dogs´ behaviour.http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3961017/RSPCA-shops-ban-on-helpers-RSPCA-dogs.html From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 29 Nov 2011 07:37 Agree with previous posters. RSPCA should be a bit more appreciative of the help they´ve received from Julia. They ought to be giving her an award for her 16 years of service to the charity. They ought to be proud to have her two dogs in the shop with her, given that they are RSPCA rescues, and I do think it´s grossly unfair to customers to bring in their dogs if staff are no longer allowed to do so. 26 Nov 2011 22:53 I agree Vena if i was a life member and a volunteer i would just turn my back towards the charity If they treated me in the same way. The R.S.P.C.A should ban all dogs not just the volunteers dogs 26 Nov 2011 21:14 They should be grateful that people volunteer FREE of charge and lf i was her id no longer be volunteering for them, what about the risks from customers dogs, it works both ways. |
