fucithalmic eye drops

Hi new to the forum

visited the vets today as my 19 year old male cat had a discharge from his eye and they gave me Fucithalmic eye drops. But I had to sign a disclaimer form as they are for human use. I understand there is a pet version of these is there any difference in the make up of them as he is already nearly deaf and i don,t wish to do any damage to his eyes ?

Thank You Lorraine

Hi, I am new to this site. Our new cat is currently having Fucithalmic eye drops as he has the same problem. I´ve used this several times on various pets and only realised it was for human use when reading the advice leaflet in the packet which indicates it is for human use, with no mention of pets. I have never been asked to sign a disclaimer. I have never known it do any harm to my pets and it always clears up the problem in a short while so I shouldn´t worry.

Hi Lorraine,

If your vet feels that Fucithalmic is the correct treatment for your cat´s eyes, then I am sure they are fine. There is both an animal version and a human version but as far as I am aware they are the same product, just packaged differently. Recently there has been some problems with getting hold of animal Fucithalmic, which may well be why your vets have prescribe the human version.

The reason your vets have asked you to sign a form is a legal formality for them because the product you were prescribe is officially for humans and not for pets. In fact, the fact they have bothered to do this marks them out as a good practice.
