Strange question any help appreciated Vole Expert ??Mums cat Charlie in Peckham London keeps catching what look like European Pine Voles. They are not said to live in Peckham ... living in Ukraine, Switzerland etc. He ate one last night. They do not look like our field voles, which are greyish browny coloured, these are little cute black voles. The girl next door had one, and charlie was stalking the area under the cooker today. I have got live ones from him before and released them back into our small garden. Do we have European Pine Voles living in our house and garden? Are english voles black? or almost black? Do I need to protect them or treat them like house mice (as charlie is doing?) Thanks From the topic: Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 18 Jan 2012 20:15 Thanks for your replies - I have contacted a couple of wildlife places today and await their reply. They are not endangered, but we do not want to be overrun with them indoors either, not knowing if they have salmonella or chew wires like mice can. Thanks 18 Jan 2012 10:31 there are many different species of vole some of them are black i know that the pine vole is in france too not sure about peckham id just catch them but realese them away from your house. 18 Jan 2012 10:06 Sorry cant help, might be worth getting a photo and contacting Defra or local environmental |
