About this club
Sometime ago back in the October of 2008, I set up a BLOG on ´Marine Mammals in Captivity´ in the context that such a thing is totally unacceptable and can only be deemed as cruel, unethical and completely immoral.

I follow the plight of Orca´s in captivity in hope that as they die for whatever reason, they will not be replaced and the Marine entertainment industry will die out.

Sadly, as we learn, that with increasing technology and veterinary skills, many Orca´s are born into this extreme artificial world only to be turned into performing clowns for the tourist industry.

I regularly update my BLOG with update´s on the Orca´s both currently in captivity all around the world and as other´s arrive, through either capture from the wild or from birth within.....however, as my BLOG is quite some way down the list of other BLOGS that I have written, I decided to create a group, where one can keep up todate with the going´s on within this sad and yet apparently thriving industry and give your support in educating other´s NOT to visit such places when abroad and so contribute to the reason for their existence.

I shall strive to provide regular info regarding the Orca as well as any campaigns against the issue of them in captivity and can only stress that this is not a fan club for them in captivity but is anti this industry.

If you feel strongly about the keeping of marine mammals in a concrete prison purely for the
entertainment industry, then this group is right for you.

Whilst it´s based mainly on Orca´s, I will also add info on the plight of other marine mammals too, including the disilliusional ´DiscoveryCoves´ where dolphins are used to work with people both able bodied and otherwise.

If you have any queries or questions then please do not hesitate to ask, thank you.

Tag your club to make it easier for people to find.

Yes Eric......those Stat´s do make very grim reading, I totally agree.....and as I started putting them together, I began to see a pattern forming too.....a majority caught from the wild and the high mortality rate within captive breeding programmes!.

I´ve heard of Knowsley Safari Park Jacqui, although I never went there obviously - yes seeing dolphins in the wild is a totally uplifting and admirable thing altogether - there is no comparison at all between seeing them in the wild and in captivity - I too have seen them wild in Australia, Florida, the Maldives and off of our own S Devon coastline....I never get fed up of seeing them, they are simply stunning.

Thank you for joining the group too, your support is very much appreciated!.

Have just joined the club and have been reading through the very many articles you´ve provided Mary. There is certainly a wealth of information here. Thankfully, I´ve never seen an orca in captivity but I do recall as a small child seeing dolphins at Knowsley Safari Park. They were in a very small pool which is no longer there now, thankfully. I also had the pleasure of seeing them wild in Australia, which was an entirely different experience...they followed the boat I was on for miles and I took lots of pics.

I´d just like to say a very big thank you to all those that have joined the group so far, your support is very much welcomed and appreciated.

If I seem absent from the site for a while it´s because I am currently putting together some research into forthcoming articles, such as mentioned below, that I am wanting to add to this group.

As it´s all my own work and not simply copy and pasted, it´s taking some time (LOL) but will be informative and hopefully worth it in the end.

Thank you for your patience.
