Myth

Myth did soooooooo well yesterday despite conditions that made last year´s Cornwood Show look meagre and we never thought that would happen.

The heavy driving rain started at around 8.15am and didn´t stop until around 6.30pm when finally the clouds gave way to blue sky and warm sunshine...which was way too late by then.

We arrived at the Showground early,just after 9.30am and parked up right beside the Dog Show ring (which proved to be an absolute God´s send I can tell you,later on in the day).

Myth´s show wasn´t starting until 1.30pm.....I think everybody was hoping that the weather would clear or at least ease up somewhat but alas it wasn´t to be and if anything it got worse.

Already vehicles of all descriptions were being towed put by the tractor and the tractor and showground staff couldn´t keep the bark chippings going down quick enough in heavily used drive through area´s......people wore waterproof´s and wellies (some silly people wore trainers and a flimsy coat and were soaked through within minutes) but unless one was wearing only the toughest of toughest waterproof´s..before long the driving rain worked it´s way through fabrics and many people walked around the show ground drenched through,despite their bestest efforts.

The Marquee´s couldn´t even withstand the volume of peristent water that showed no sign of stopping and stewards and exhibitors strived in vain to keep their goods,wares and produce dry and away from leaky bulging canvas roof´s...many traders simply gave up the fight,packed up and went home....there was very little anything more that people could do in that position.

One tent that did do well was the Beer tent (as always) which offered,fine ale´s,cider,etc,chairs,tables a nice dry area to shelter from and cooking demonstrations which were then handed around the drinking soaked punters for free.

The Dog Show begun at 1.30pm and Myth and I left the nice warm beer tent to go and sit in our 4x4 beside the ring,until it was our classes.....I had a picnic hamper in there and some beer,so it was quite comfortable allbeit the car interior soon became as soaked inside as it was outside,as Myth and I were in and out,in and out...but it offered at least some respite from the abmissal weather.

Myth had 6 Classes in all and took 2 x 1st´s,1 x 2nd and BEST IN SHOW....so we were very very pleased with her giving the conditions and what dog´s she was up against.....she was also the only Bull´y breed in the ring ( as is often the case),so it make´s us even more pleased when the Judge selected her above those others,that are seen and selected more often over such breeds as Myth.

Normally we,don´t leave the Showground until around 6pm but yesterday,the Show organisers swept through the appropiate Classes for everything in a very short space of time and we ended up leaving a little after 3.30pm which was very early.

BUT...despite all the attrocious weather,mud bath´s and waterlogged fields,etc...we had a great day out and thankfully our waterproofs withstood the elements and though soaked on the outside,we were warm,dry and snug on the inside,unlike many many other´s that tried to make their way through the day.

OH well.......another soggy Show and another good ole British Summertime (LOL).....here´s hoping that Cornwood on the 15th Aug will NOT be another replica of yesterday!!!.

I have been very keen to get more positive story´s about our beloved Bull breeds for sometime now and have finally made a small breakthrough via my own local daily,´The Plymouth´s Evening Herald´.

I was advised by a couple of regular´s (alias Myth fan´s) down the Local last week to contact our daily paper´s and see if they´d cover a story about Myth being sooooooooo popular down there and having her own following.

To brief those that don´t know how this all started,Myth (like most dog´s) alway´s goes down ´The Ship´s Tavern´ with me when I go down...we do take the other two from time to time but they get bored and overly excited and it´s not easy trying to hold three dogs (two of which want to lick everybody to death) and drink a pint sat at a table with other´s.....whereas Myth enjoy´s just chilling out and having affection from all her adoring fans and sneeking in on a bar stool or poufet.

Over the time,Myth has quite simply become almost the ´Ship´s´ mascot and is allowed everywhere and been a big hit with the last few Manager´s (plus Staff) that we´ve had during the last 2 -3 years.

IF for any reason Myth doesn´t go down there.....we´ve complaint´s from people and very upset children...so basically,Myth come´s everytime and has now reached a new platform in her role.

I myself am not on ´Facebook´ and have no intention of doing so.....BUT a friend (with my permission) decided to set up Myth´s own account just over a week ago.....I have the details of this account and go on it and work as MYTH!.....Myth´s fan´s have followed on her there from ´The Ship´ and from the surrounding area´s...she even has friends from up country and 2 from Australia.

So far she has 53 friend´s in all....belong´s to the Group ´The Ship´s Tavern & King´s Head´ and has her own photo album´s and YouTube video....I for one cannot believe how popular she has become and because of this.....the newpaper wishes to make a story of her down our Local and hopefully show the breed in some much needed positive light.

So she has her photoshoot on Thursday at lunchtime and from there,they will create her story and then put together her feature for the paper........we are really proud of our small girl and for all she does to demonstrate just how good,just how loyal and just how great this breed can truly be when in the right hands.

Go Myth.....!!!!.

Many may already know that Myth has only been showing for just three times now,since the 18th August......well yesterday,we popped along to another Exemption Dog Show,being held at Cornwood,where the Agricultural Show is usually held and this time,the weather was incredibly kind to us...very very warm,sunny and above all..DRY!.....Yippeeeeee!.

She wasn´t particularly working at all well in the Show ring yesterday for whatever reason and was told on more than a few occasions,in no un-certain terms,to pull her sock´s up,especially after refusing to ´sit´ but prefering to go ´down´ in the Obedience Class......but despite that we still got placed,amazingly enough and finally after three classes,the penny dropped and she began to work and respond quite well.

The end results,were a 1st,a 2nd,2 x 3rds,2x 4th´s,1.x 5th and as we had won one first...we were in for Champion Best In Show and were competing against 23 other 1st placed winners.

When the Judge walked over to us and awarded us the ´Champion Best In Show´...I almost fell through the floor and Myth looked up at me,and then began to bounce up and down,her mouth in a typical Staffie smiliey pose and her tail wagging with such enthusiasm,that it hurt my legs as it struck me.
We couldn´t believe it.....Myth´s second Championship,only a week after her first ever...we are so proud of her and she know´s it (LOL).

We hope to do another Show on Sunday 21st Sept,down in Landrake,Cornwall.....as long as my partner doesn´t go fishing of course..but whilst Myth is on a winning streak and enjoying it..why not indeed !!!! (Hee-hee).

Our Mummy said you were a star and are a great representative for the staffy breed (we don´t know what any of that means but it sounds important).
