Some sad new´s to report....our lovely Bahia Grey Bird eating spider ´Taranaki´ passed away back on the 2nd May 2010, we are believing down to age, because I got her when she was an adult some years ago and she has been eating and doing everything fine up until her last week or so.

She lay´s buried beside the pond in our Japanese garden by some Arum Lilies and Bamboo.

May she forever scuttle amongst the clouds and her eight tiny feet, be swathed in the colours of the Rainbow...Rest In Peace little spiddy!.

Last night (28th June)..I discovered that Spinnaker my little Pink Toe,had sadly slipped away.
I had had him since he was a tiny spiderling back in August 2004 but he had turned out to be a male which do not live very long in spider´s and so he was quite old when he passed away.

Rest In Peace ´Spinnaker´....little buddy.

Yes,the whole of the Arachnid stable, appear to be going through their annual moult, well nearly all of them, anyway.
I knew that a few were due because they had been off their food for a few months which is perfectly normal, prior to a spider moulting and as they don´t always make a moulting ´cradle´,it is not always predictable as to when exactly they will turn over onto their backs and begin the process of shedding their old exoskeleton.

So on three mornings I have come down or into the room and found what look´s to be like to be two spiders in one terrarium but is in fact one spider and it´s old skin.
´Spinnet´ the Mexican Flame Red Striped Knee, moulted first on the 2-10-07,then ´Mortiana´ the Mexican Red Knee and then just recently on the 9-12-7-07,was my Bahia Grey BirdEater ´Taranaki´.

All moulted well, with no problems (thank goodness) and the exoskeletons have been removed and stored, the date of moult logged in their records and they are slowly regaining their strength and all, ready to start eating again, very shortly.
They have all moulted now for this year, save for ´Minerva´ the Mexican True Red Leg and ´Chesara´,the Salmon Pink BirdEater as featured on this page....so they will soon be doing their bit soon,no doubt.

What a clever and exciting world we live in and nature is a sheer genius in it´s own special way.

Please dont hate me forever! and please dont visit me at home, lol. I'm one of these silly people who gets freaked by spiders - sorry! I'm sure I just dont understand your ways yet, maybe someday.
The deal is you stay in your nice very secure tank and I'll just freak out somewhere in private. Happy hunting anyway spider friends (to be?? lol)

D: Please don't try to eat me, I really am not food. I pestered mum, she said she would pop some pictures up when we emerge from our burrows, at the moment I'm happily in my burrow, and Sia has webbed herself in her flowerpot :)

I'm pretty sure I am ok, I'm up and about moving around. Mum checked if I wanted a cricket and I did, so she now have another little parcel of dead cricket to remove. I had a bit of a dig, and did some climbing. Apart from the fact I have a little bald spot, not nice for a lady, I'm ok.

I will give mum a nudge, she hardly ever checks her email, silly thing she is.

Unfortunately I don't think mum will be getting me lun.... Err <.< A male for a few years.
She said she may try to breed me once she goes to uni, but until them I am a free woman.
The new kids moved in next door, they climb all over the place and are rather noisy. Can not say I am impressed. I am sure mum will make it up to me with some locusts or something, they are far nicer than crickets after all. For some reason however she seems scared of them :/

Silly Mum putting her name on the message, she needs training better :)

Much love

Hey arachnid gang!

I am indeed a Chile rose, however unlike you guys I am all alone.
Although mum has been talking about babies recently, so it looks like I am getting some spider neighbours.

They best not think about stealing my food!
