Hello Christal,
Thank you for your message and sorry that I've only just got back to you but I was out last night and been doing a bit of gardening this morning as it's lovely down here in the South West today.
Regarding Charlie going to France.....at the end of the day,it is down to you wether you wish to take the risk because..yes,you may very well get through the customs and whatnot at the Borders but one cannot guarantee that any French Police nor authorities may think differently if they spot him being walked down the street or whatever..regardless of what paperwork you have.
Charlie in his pics look's very much a Staffie or Bull'y type even though he is not a purebred....and don't forget,BSL doesn't just pull in purebreds..it can pull in any dog with any Bull'y in it OR (which is worse) just look like's a Bull'y type ie:Boxer cross Labrador, etc, etc.
Your vet's letter is OK but that is a far as it goes really because it only states that Charlie doesn't meet 'purebreed standards' for a SBT.....that is irrrelevant where BSL and such countries laws are concerned..as the fact that he is a bull'y type still matters, wether he is not as muscular or leaner, etc.
I am presuming that you are planning to go to France on holiday rather than live.....I'm not sure,as you haven't really said....BUT if it is only a holiday, then definately consider leaving Charlie behind either with a freind or family member for two weeks or such or put him into recommended and reputable kennels for the duration......I personally wouldn't want to take the risk if it was me and it was just a holiday!!.
If on the other hand, you are planning to live there, than obviously I can understand your wanting to take him....who wouldn't and then, one would try and do all and what they could to ensure a safe pass through and life once over there.
As I said previously....at the end of the day,it is down to you what you decide, both for your dog and yourselves......but because I had to look into travelling through Europe for another lady who own's a SBT and wishes to return to Slovakia for a holiday to see her family..after going through a few channels and her going through the French Embassy....we were told it was be ill advisable for her to take her dog.
Slovakia hasn't BSL as such but to get there she would have had to have gone through France,Germany,Belgium,etc....all NOTORIOUSLY BSL strict and she decided that she loved her dog too much too risk losing her possibly in one of these countries.
She is hoping to move back there in about two years time,so obviously want's to take her bitch with her then......but we are waiting to see what materialises in that time and will face that HUGE hurdle nearer the time.
I feel incredibly frustrated and annoyed that as owners of our beloved breeds as our pets....we are now basically prevented from moving abroad or holidaying because of BSL.
I find this very sad, that unless I and others decide to give up our breeds....I and others are tied to this country full stop!.I wouldn't take my dogs away with me on holiday anyway....I for one need a break (ha-ha-ha) but we have always wanted to move to a warmer climate with a cheaper and more laid back way of life, like Australia or such.....sadly BSL is now over there and many countries also have Rottweilers on there lists so all 3 of my dogs are basically banned in so many places around the world.......isn't that just awful!!!.
Good luck on what you decide to do......let us know how things go and please feel free to message me,if you need any extra advice.
Love
Mary

Hi Christal,
I have just responded to your EU advice needed on the Dog Forum.
I see that you have joined my Group....thank you for that....if I can be of any more help then please don't hesitate to ask me.
I've just looked at your dog in question in the photo and I don't think you will be able to take him/her to France......she look's more SBT than anything else and the risk of her being seized in France is just TOO HIGH!.
Any probs...message me and I'll help where I can.
Love
Mary
