Also, one our guinea pigs (Squeaky) has died (aged 7). Rosiehas gone to join a gang of guinea pigs with another friend. She would have been very lonely. We have also married. David and I are academics and work together mostly from home although we are often at University too. We love all animals but particularly cats. Our new pets are Gracie and Maud. Maud is very normal (except for having 6 fingers on each front paw). She loves her food and running around the garden irrespective of the weather. She was dumped with kittens and considering she is 5 years of age, I suspect that she has had a lot in her short life. But she seems like an over-active teenager and is full of life. Gracie is neurotic and quite difficult, but very loving. She was scavenging on a building site for over a year before she was trapped. She chews the fur off her back whenever she is stressed (which seems to be often). We give her absolutely everything we can think of to make her happy so hopefully she will improve. Unfortunately, Gracie and Maud are definitely not a pair although they look very similar. We do not have open warfare but there is definitely a truce in the house. But, they are equals and they must just get on with it. We love them both to bits and hope that they have lovely long lives wtih us from now on. M 10 Feb 2007 20:00 I think that's an excellent idea Pat. Lots of garden plants & flowers are toxic to rabbits & guinea pigs too. 10 Jan 2007 18:41 What a powerful and tragic story. Is there any chance the little dog will survive? It´s so important that people realize that it´s vital to train their dogs. I sometimes look after a 10 month old labrador which has had no training. Although this dog isn´t at all aggressive, the combination of her boisterous nature, strength and total lack of training makes her a liability - she is strong enough to drag me under oncoming traffic and she is quite capable of leaping up on and injuring smaller dogs and even children. Someone else on this site has pointed me in the direction of good training and I am going to do everything I can to see that this dog´s owner makes a commitment to training her before it´s too late.
