My Interests
I thought it was about time I updated this! I have now finished my HND Equine Studies course and had a job working at a Welsh Sec C & D Stud over the summer which was great fun and helped me gain a load of experience.

I am now looking for another job, hopefully at Stud closer to where I live. I will keep you posted if I find one!

Hi Kylie,
Ref:Lonely Brae!.
I myself keep ferrets and know that ferrets are social companion animals but in the case of Brae(lovely name by the way),putting in another ferret especially a male would most defiantely be ensuring it's fate.
As an entire 4 yr old,Brae is now very independent and used to be kept alone, another male would make him extremely territorial and they will fight to to the death, the newcomer likely being the victim and Brae
sustaining some appalling injuries.
I have witnessed a ferret fight between my two males Banjo and his brother Binx (now deceased),they came to me as rescues and had grown
up together and shared the same ferret cub all their young life.
Oneday out of the blue, they started fighting and were virtually inseperable,
I myself received nasty injuries to my fingers in an attempt to seperate the squealing, tumbling and biting mass of cream ferrets.Eventually in a
matter of minutes they were seperated and dealt with but then I had to house them seperately and that was that.
Even getting him nuetered then adding a Jill is no good, because as she comes into season, this will drive him crazy anyway and he will continue to grab her on the back of the neck in his attempt to cover her.
Banjo even tried this with my two spayed Jills when I had hoped to house them all together.
So what I've done,is position Banjo in his own ferret cub near to Precious
& Flowers in their ferret cub and the ferrets can see and smell each other but at a safe distance, this keeps things sweet all round.
Hope this helps.

Dear Kylie, I just read your message on the Droitwich Ferret Rescue page, regarding your ferret. Once a male ferret reaches the age of about 9/10 months he will be ready for neutering. After the operation, he will need to recover for approximately 7 weeks, that is on his own. After that period of time, he will be able to mix with other neutered hobs and spayed jills, but hobs who haven't been neutered would fight to the kill if they were put together with other ferrets. It is best to have your ferret neutered, even if he remains on his own as he will become friendlier after the operation. I have rescued ferrets for the past ten years, and I hope that this information will help you. Best Wishes, Janet and The Menagerie
